Kindling Group

When we (Kindling Group) released our first film, A Doula Story, in 2005, a new world was opened to many by Loretha Weisinger, a dedicated doula working exclusively with teenage mothers in Chicago’s Southern and Western neighborhoods. Having struggled once as a teenage mother herself, Loretha understands the value of having a nurturing, positive relationship. She focuses on teaching the young mothers-to-be about everything from breast-feeding to reading to the practical details of communicating effectively with health care professionals. In a world of dwindling safety nets, the first bond of parent to child is one that Loretha is fighting to preserve, nurturing young women that they might pass that care to their children.
