The stakes are always high with the environment, because once a deal like the Tar Sands project is given legal permission, it’s almost impossible to undue the harm. Laying out the rhyme and reason of the Tar Sands operation, who will benefit and what the ecological runoff will be, it’s clear there is too much risk. The Tar Sands project has encountered local and national opposition from its inception—and for good reason. There are energy alternatives; they can only flourish when old energy isn’t given pipeline highways across the US.
