Today is International Museum Day, and we present The Art of the Steal, a documentary about the political commerce of art and the curious case of the Barnes Foundation. Prodigious art collector Albert C. Barnes amassed a collection worth $25 billion in the mid-twentieth century and intentionally housed this collection in the suburbs outside Philadelphia. Barnes desire to keep the collection away from the capital—and it’s vested interests—was penned in his will. The Art of the Steal focuses of the violation of Barnes will, and probes into the international multi-million dollar industry represented by museum institutions.
