On this Memorial Day weekend, which has come to mean a day off for barbecues for so many of us, we want to shine a light on stories of a group of people who go above and beyond in their appreciation for our nations soldiers and for the value of life. “The Way We Get By” is a deeply moving film about life and how to live it. Beginning as a seemingly idiosyncratic story about troop greeters – a group of senior citizens who gather daily at a small airport to thank American soldiers departing and returning from Iraq, the film quickly turns into a moving, unsettling and compassionate story about aging, loneliness, war and mortality.
Remember those who have given their lives for our country with the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m local time on Memorial Day. This can be as simple as a minute of silence, placing your hand on your heart, bowing your head, say a prayer, etc.
